Alternative to Todoist

A calm Todoist alternative that plans only what fits

Todoist is one of the best-known to-do apps, and for good reason: it is fast, mature and works everywhere. But a list app counts tasks, not hours. If your Today list keeps growing and every evening ends with red overdue tasks, the problem is not you. It is that nothing tells you the day was full before you started. That is what Plenzu is built for.

Why people look for a Todoist alternative

  • The Today list holds more than the day. Todoist shows how many tasks you have, not how long they take together.
  • Overdue tasks pile up in red, and moving them every morning starts to feel like failing.
  • Some basics, such as task durations and the calendar layout, are on the paid plan.
  • The app slowly becomes a project of its own: filters, labels and sections to keep in order.

What Plenzu does differently

In Plenzu every task can have a duration, and you set the hours you have per weekday. A time bar shows planned time against those hours, with a buffer for the unexpected. It stays green while the day fits and turns amber when it really is too much. Never red.

Tasks you did not finish are not "overdue". The next morning Plenzu shows what was carried over, and you decide in a few taps: do it today, move it, or let it go. After three moves, Plenzu asks whether it is still worth doing.

For the week there is a Planner with a day, week and month view, where you drag tasks from a busy day to a quiet one. Bigger plans live in workspaces with a status and an optional timeline. Read more in how to plan a day you can actually finish.

When Todoist suits you better

Be honest with yourself: Todoist is the better choice if you work in a team with shared projects, need integrations with tools like Slack or your email, or want native apps on every platform. Plenzu is a web app you can install on your phone and computer, focused on personal planning.

How to switch

  1. 1Create a free Plenzu account; it takes a minute and needs only your email.
  2. 2Set your hours per weekday in Settings.
  3. 3Add the tasks for this week, with a rough duration for each. You do not have to move everything at once.
  4. 4Plan one week in Plenzu next to Todoist, and see whether your days feel calmer.

Questions

Is Plenzu free?

Yes. Everything in Plenzu is free for now, with unlimited tasks and workspaces. A Pro plan of €39 a year is planned for later; the free plan stays.

Can I import my tasks from Todoist?

Not yet. For now the easiest way is to start with the tasks for the coming week. Old tasks you have not touched in months are often a good moment to let go.

Does Plenzu work on my phone?

Yes. Plenzu runs in the browser and can be installed as an app on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac. It keeps working offline and syncs when you are back online.
